BeBlocky, inc. (Ethiopia)

BeBlocky is a gamified learning app that teaches children the basics of computer science in a fun and interactive way. It presents code concepts in a graphical puzzle like programming blocks designed to look attractive for kids. Users just have to drag & drop to program BlockyBot, a friendly robot, to perform a range of different tasks and entertaining movements, making the app very fun and intuitive to learn.

eLimu – Sheeko (Kenya)

Sheeko teaches reading and writing to adults who have missed out on school in Dadaab Refugee Camp, with stories from their community, and exercises proven to accelerate learning.

The app is full of stories from the community about Somali folklore, about escaping the war, and about everyday life in a refugee camp. Sheeko has gone on to produce versions in English, Kiswahili for Kenya and in the Ugandan language Lugbarati, with their goal to make mother tongue literacy apps across the region.

LightSail Education (South Africa) 

LightSail Education is an adaptive reading platform. Learners get an objective ongoing assessment of reading ability and grow with personalized, multi-language, libraries and data-driven insights for educators.

LightSail has addressed the single greatest need in education: that of literacy, in a way that makes a scalable platform both universal and individual.

ShuleSoft (Tanzania)

ShuleSoft is an extensible, scalable and easy to use school management system that simplifies school operations and interconnects parents, teachers, students, and other school’s stakeholders.

More than 70% of ShuleSoft users, use their mobile phones to access services. Teachers use their smartphones to enter marks and view reports while parents use smartphones to view reports using Shulesoft.

All information is registered in the cloud generating reports and statistics and real-time reports.
